Yee Sang.. Oh Yee Sang…..

Finally yee sang is here. Only once a year that you can find this dish and that is during the Chinese New Year.

What is ‘Yee Sang’ you may ask? Some called it Yusheng or lo hei. It is actually a Teochew style raw fish mixed with shredded vegetables with pre-mixed special sauce.

This dish is a served as an appetizer due to the symbolism of ‘good luck’ for the new year. Usually this dish will be consume from the 7th day of Chinese New Year onwards but now a days, it is so commercialize that a month before the chinese new year, you can buy this prepack in the supermarket or even sold in restaurant where you can already start eating it.

Home made – Teochew Png Kueh

This is a light snack by the Chinese; Teochew Png kueh. It is soft and filled with fillings inside; crush peanuts w a slight salty taste. (It is known that there some where the ingredient fillings are different slightly).

The skin is made of mixture of rice flour and tapioca flour and to cook this, it is usually steamed.
